Making the rounds this year on a couple of design-y gift guides is The Present, a clock designed by Booklyn-based creative firm m ss ng p eces. The clock automatically sets itself to the current calendar date when you insert two AA batteries and then takes a year to make an entire revolution as the single hand highlights colors associated with the passing season. An original run of the clock was successfully funded on Kickstarter last year, but the clock is now available to the general public through their website.

Dave Hurban clearly feels the love for his iPod Nano - taking the unusual step of drilling holes in his arm, adn plugging the holes with four magnets to keep the iPod nano literally close at hand. Awesome!

Pebble is an e-paper watch that syncs with Android smartphones and iPhones and can be customized with apps and interchangeable faces (video). Engineer Eric Migicovksy and a small engineering and design team are preparing the watch for manufacture. They’re pre-selling Pebble on Kickstarter, and so far they have raised in excess of six million dollars (a new record for Kickstarter).

Perhaps you remember the QLOCKTWO Wall Clock that we wrote about a few years ago? Well, designers Biegert & Funk are back with a watch based on the same design. Instead of numbers, the QLOCKTWO W lights up with words to tell you what time it is. That’s right, it spells it out for you in plain English (or German). I love how it makes you pause for a moment to read what time it is.
